The Center for Art in Wood launched a series of conversations with queer woodworkers. Artist and educator Katherine Lam will lead this edition of the roundtable discussion with leading queer woodworkers and artists in wood, sharing the ways their lived experience impacts their craft, process, and aesthetic. Join us for an enlightening and fun evening.

Katherine Lam is an independent designer/builder and Chair of the Furniture Design Program at California College of the Arts.   Katherine’s practice spans over twenty years of engagement with furniture and the handmade object with focus on design and production for the Architecture + Design market.  A graduate of CCA (Wood / Furniture 1998) they began their career as a furniture maker, moved into the design world as a creative and administrator, and in recent years expanded creative practice with land-based works in the high desert of New Mexico.  Katherine joined the Furniture Design Program faculty in 2015 bringing with them a balanced perspective of the handmade, design, and professional practice.

Katherine’s creative practice continues to center Craft as a practice and value system.  The handmade object becomes a locus of inquiry into the systems and structures that shape how we value and organize our worlds.

This event is free to the public. The Center for Art in Wood interprets, nurtures, and champions creative engagement and expansion of art, craft, and design in wood to enhance the public’s understanding and appreciation of it. A suggested donation of $5 per person enables us to provide programs and exhibitions throughout the year.
