June 7, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Object Lesson | Dominique Ellis | Fri. June 7, 2019 | 7 – 7:30 pm | The Center for Art in Wood Museum Collection
FREE

Object Lesson is a monthly First Friday speaker series that will open wide the cases of the Center’s Museum Collection through the perspectives of individuals from the worlds of art, design, performance, community activism, education, and more, creating fresh dialogues about the Collection and its objects. The series invites the public for an up-close and personal experience in an informal, discursive setting that will encourage exploration of the many treasures in the Collection.

Dominique Ellis’ visual practice and research investigates global craft traditions, architecture, and history.  Her interdisciplinary practice explores storytelling through oral history, documentary photography and installations examining urban blight, social change, and nostalgia.  Her recent research interests are focused on the economics of craft, industry, and family in the past century.

Ellis received her M.F.A. in Printmaking at Tyler School of Art in 2013. She was awarded a U.S. Fulbright student scholarship for Egypt, as well as an Arabic language grant for 2009-2010 and was based in Cairo, Egypt.  She served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, from 2006-2008, working for the Moroccan Ministry of Handicrafts. She is currently the Retail Manager and Gallery Coordinator at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, PA.
