Annual Founders’ Fundraiser
November 12, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The event was held at the Center on Saturday, November 12, 2016 from 6pm – 8pm. This year’s event honored Glenn Adamson and included a video tribute from the Wood Turning in North America Since 1930 curatorial team. The team includes Edward S (Ned) Cook Jr., Charles F. Montgomery Professor, History of Art American Decorative Arts and Material Culture, Yale University; Charles Hummel, Curator Emeritus, Winterthur Museum and Garden; Pat Kane, Curator of Decorative Arts Yale University Art Gallery; and Albert LeCoff, Co-Founder and Executive Director of The Center for Art in Wood.
Glenn Adamson is the former Nanette L. Laitman Director of the Museum of Arts and Design and a longtime friend of The Center for Art in Wood. Glenn’s tenure with the organization includes a range of curatorial advice and planning that spans over 16 years. Beginning with support in developing Wood Turning in North America Since 1930 to overseeing the curation and implementation of the upcoming exhibition, Wood, Revisited.
The event also celebrated the first year of the annual Bob Stocksdale International Excellence in Wood Award. Supported by an anonymous donor, this $1,000 award will be presented annually to an emerging or mid-career artist whose work, like Stocksdale’s, unites quality of craftsmanship and respect for materials. An exhibition of the artist’s work is being presented concurrently with Wood, Revisited. The inaugural honoree is Jakob Weissflog, Germany. Jakob’s work will be on display and is available for sale November 12, 2016 – April 8, 2017 in the Len scherock Museum Store.
